Owned by Walmart, Bodega is the second of the large grocery store chains to hit the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area. As is the case with Walmart, Bodega offers a range of grocery store items, many items in bulk, as wells as departments of clothing, automotive, housewares, toys, baby supplies and a pharmacy.

just the facts, ma'am: Bodega is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm. Although the layout has been redesigned since the grand opening, the aisles can occasionally feel claustrophobic when crowded. Because many items are offered in bulk, there is a more limited variety in brands

The first of the large, chain grocery stores to arrive in the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area, Comercial Mexicana is a full-service store that sells everything from beer and potato chips to fresh fruit and vegetables. They also have an electronics section, housewares, clothes, baby supplies, automotive, plumbing/tools, toys, books and a pharmacy. Some of the products sold are Kirkland brand, which normally can be found at Costco.

just the facts, ma'am: Comercial Mexicana is open from 7 am to 10 pm daily. It is one of the few places to go in the afternoons that is totally air-conditioned. Sundays are family shopping days, so go with patience and a full stomach, because you won’t be getting out of there quickly.

Ixtapa has its own supermercado called Scruples, where you can get a variety of grocery store items without having to drive all the way into Zihuatanejo. Milk, beer, bread, cereal, pastries, meat and canned goods are available, among other things. This is not a large grocery store like Comercial Mexicana or Bodega in Zihuatanejo but will save you the trip for short shopping lists. Bear in mind that you pay for the convenience with higher prices.
